In this article, to develop a sociological perspectivein music education, we first examined social and economic inequality andinjustice through various sociological approaches. When establishing asociological basis for music education, we have taken into consideration thefunctionalist theory, the conflict theory, symbolic interactions, andbureaucratization. These theories and approaches were used to evaluateeducation sociology, thus allowing us to make sociological assessmentsregarding music education. With functionalist theory; by contributing to thecontinued existence of music as a social entity, music education alsocontributes – as a tool of reproduction – to the legitimization and approval ofthe dominant ideology and system of values, and to their adaptation within thesystem. As such, when evaluating music education according to the conflictapproach, we considered how cases of inequality and injustice in musiceducation could be identified and resolved. With regards to symbolic interactions, using labels such as successfulor unsuccessful in music education further reinforces the inequalities thatstem from the environment and the family in which children are raised.Bureaucratization, on the other hand, confers a rather bureaucraticcharacteristic to music education through the implementation of written rulesand principles that shape course content, class notes and class meetings; themandatory nature of music education for every student, which reduces the appealof this class at a personal level; and the employment of music instructorsbased on a set of technical qualities, rather than a more comprehensiveapproach.Buçalışmada, müzik eğitimine sosyolojik açıdan bir bakış yöneltilmiş; böylecemüzik eğitimi alanındaki eşitsizlikler ve adaletsizlikler, çeşitli sosyolojikteorilerden yola çıkarak ele alınmıştır. Müzik eğitimi alanında bir sosyolojiktemel kurarken; işlevselci teori, çatışmacı teori ve sembolik etkileşimcilikile beraber bürokratikleşmeye de yer verilmiştir. Bu teori ve yaklaşımlar,eğitim sosyolojisi ile birlikte ele alınmış, böylelikle müzik eğitimi alanıiçin sosyolojik bir değerlendirme alanı kurulmuştur. İşlevselci teori; müzikeğitiminin, toplumsal varlığın sürdürülmesine katkısı, yeniden üretim aracıolarak, egemen ideolojinin ve doğrunun meşrulaştırılması, onaylatılması ve sistemeuyum sağlanmasına katkı sunmaktır. Müzik eğitimi içindeki eşitliksiz veadaletsiz durumların açığa çıkarılması ve eşitsizliklerin ve adaletsizlikleringeriletilmesi yönünde nelerin değiştirilebileceği, çatışmacı bakış açısı ilemüzik eğitiminin incelenmesinde ele alınan konulardır. Sembolik etkileşimcilikmüzik eğitimi alanı ile birlikte değerlendirildiğinde; müzik eğitimindebaşarılı, başarısız etiketlemelerinin yapılması, çevreye ve içinde gelişilenaile yapısına dayalı eşitsizlikleri pekiştirdiği görülmektedir. Bürokratikleşmedüşünüldüğünde ise ders içerikleri, ders notları, zümre toplantı tutanaklarıgibi yazılı kural ve kaidelerin bulunması, müzik dersinin herkes için zorunluoluşuyla kişisellikten uzaklığı ve eğitimcilerin ve uygulayıcıların bir takımteknik vasıflara dayalı olarak istihdam edilmeleri müzik eğitimini bürokratiközelliklerin tümüne sahip kılmaktadır.
