The purpose of this study is to examine secondary school sixth grade students’abilities of posing problems appropriate to the column graph. For this purpose,the students’ expressions that they wrote during problem posing activities wereinvestigated according to certain criteria (whether the written expression is aproblem, whether the Turkish grammer and story of expression have mistakes,whether the problem is appropriate to the given graph, at which trial thestudent is able to pose a problem, whether the student can complete the missinginformation in the given graph, and the student’s solution to his/her ownproblem). This study was conducted in qualitative research design using casestudy model of descriptive research methods. The sample group of the studyconsisted of 28 students, 15 girls and 13 boys in sixth grade attending a publicsecondary school located in the province of Bursa in the first semester of 2016- 2017 academic year. In order to evaluate the students’ ability to poseproblems based on the column graph, five problem posing activities that varywith respect to the given data in the column graph were prepared. To preparethese activities, the textbooks approppriate for the secondary schoolmathematics curriculum and expert opinions were utilized. In the analysis ofthe data, content analysis method was preferred. Each expression formed by thestudents in the problem posing activities was examined in terms of the pre-determinedcriteria. Though some grammer and story mistakes, it was seen that most of thestudents were able to pose problems approppriate to given graph and thereforetheir problem posing abilities were better than expected. Some of the problemsthat students posed were selected and presented with investigation results inthe study.Bu çalışmanın amacı ortaokul altıncı sınıf öğrencilerinin sütungrafiğine uygun problem kurma becerilerinin incelenmesidir. Bu amaçdoğrultusunda, öğrencilerin problem kurma etkinliklerinde yazdıkları ifadelerbelirli kriterlere göre (ifadenin problem olup olmadığı, ifadenin Türkçe dil veanlatımının hatalı olup olmadığı, problemin verilen grafiğe uygun olupolmadığı, öğrencinin kaçıncı denemede problem kurabildiği, grafikte eksikbırakılan bilgileri tamamlayıp tamamlamadığı, kurduğu problem için kendi problemçözümü) incelenmiştir. Bu çalışma nitel araştırma deseninde, betimleyiciaraştırma yöntemlerinden durum çalışması modeli kullanılarakgerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın örneklem grubu, 2016 - 2017 eğitim öğretimyılı birinci döneminde Bursa ilinde bir devlet ortaokulunda altıncı sınıftaöğrenim gören 15 kız ve 13 erkek toplam 28 öğrenciden oluşmuştur. Öğrencilerinsütun grafiğine uygun problem kurma becerilerini değerlendirmek için grafikteverilen veriler açısından değişkenlik arzeden beş adet problem kurma etkinliğihazırlanmıştır. Bu etkinlikler hazırlanırken ortaokul matematik öğretimprogramına uygun ders kitaplarından ve uzman görüşlerinden yararlanılmıştır. Verilerinanalizinde içerik analizi yöntemi tercih edilmiştir. Problem kurma etkinliklerindeöğrencilerin kurdukları her bir ifade önceden belirlenen kriterlere göreincelenmiştir. Öğrencilerin çoğunluğunun bazı dil ve anlatım hatalarına rağmenverilen grafiğe uygun problem kurabildikleri; sonuçta problem kurmabecerilerinin beklenenden daha iyi olduğu görülmüştür. Öğrencilerin kurduklarıproblemlerden bazıları seçilerek üzerlerinde yapılan inceleme sonuçlarıylabirlikte çalışmada sunulmuştur.
