In this research, there exists a discussionon integrating writing into mathematics education.Writing contributes to the teaching process in bothlearning and evaluation dimensions. One of theways in which writing is used in mathematicscourses is the inclusion of writing in the problemsolving process. Writing can improve problemsolving skills, and also it gives teachers theopportunity to evaluate their students' problemsolving processes as a whole. The aim of the studyis to reveal the students' writing skill levels on howto solve the problem and the relationship betweenwhat they write and what they do to solve theproblem. In this way, the effect of writing onevaluation will be analyzed. For this purpose, aqualitative research has been designed. 41, 2nd and3rd year students participated in the study.Questionnaires consisting of 3 open-ended questionswere used as a data tools. In these forms, thestudents wrote about both the solution of theproblems and the reasons for their solution. In thedata analysis, first of all, students' responses to theproblems and then their reasons were coded. Thereasons for the correct and incorrectly resolvedquestions were analyzed separately. The level ofpresenting the reasons for the students whoanswered the question correctly is good but notsufficient when considering the culture of the schoolin which such a habit is not developed. The reasonsfor the students who answered the questionincorrectly provide detailed data on their thinkingand problem solving process.
