The purpose of this study is to examine the effect ofinformal learning environments for the aimed mathematics course on theattitudes of middle school students towards mathematics lessons. For thispurpose, two middle schools, which are equal to each other in socioeconomicterms, were selected from the middle schools in the province center in theMediterranean region. In the selection process of the schools, it has beenconsidered that the likelihood of encountering with visual materials, games andactivities on mathematics is relatively lower, there are no such kind ofmathematics learning areas, and schools are preferred by students forrelatively lower socioeconomic level. Therefore, purposeful sampling was optedfor to determine the schools where the research was conducted and the studentsincluded in the research. The research has a semi-experimental model inpre-test, post-test control group. In the experimental period, the social areasare equipped with mathematical equations, rules, cartoons, modeling and games. In the second semester of 2016-2017 academic year, mathematical related gameswere introduced and played in elective mathematics classes and breaks for abouttwo and a half months. For the students in the control group, no interventionwas made. In both schools, the 22 item "Mathematics Attitude Scale forMiddle School Students" developed by Önal (2013) was applied to 369students at all class levels from 5th to 8th grades. The Cronbach Alphacoefficients calculated for the reliability of the data obtained from the studyare acceptable for both measurements. Dependent and independent group t-testswere used to test the effect of the informal learning environment on attitudescores on mathematics of experimental and control groups. As a result of theresearch, it was found that attitude scale towards math was a statisticallysignificant difference in the anxiety and necessity sub-dimensions for the experimentalgroup and some suggestions were made based on the findings.
