Bu çalışma, veterinerfakültesi öğrencilerinin ötenazi hakkındaki genel bilgi ve görüşlerinibelirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın materyalini Kafkas Üniversitesinden 320, AdnanMenders Üniversitesi’nden 318 olmak üzere 638 öğrenci ile yüz yüze yapılan anketten elde edilen verileroluşturmuştur. Yapılan çalışmada, araştırma kapsamına alınan öğrencilerin yaşortalamasının 23.09±1.45 olduğu ve %70.5’inin ötenazi hakkındaki bilgiyi okuleğitimi sırasında aldığı belirlenmiştir. Veteriner fakültesi öğrencilerininötenaziye ilişkin görüşleri incelendiğinde, katılımcıların %71.2’sine göregerekli durumlarda hayvanlara ötenazi uygulaması yapılabileceğini uygunbuldukları belirlenmiştir. Katılımcıların %83,1’inin hayvan sahiplerinin hastahayvanları için ötenazi isteğinin veteriner hekim tarafından dikkate alınması gerektiğinidüşündükleri ve %55.5’inin dini inançların hayvanlara ötenazi tartışmalarındaönemli bir referans olarak kabul edilmemesi gerektiğini düşündükleri tespitedilmiştir. Veteriner fakültesindeokuyan veteriner hekim adaylarının ötenaziye yaklaşımları konusunda demografikyapı, cinsiyet, kültürel ve yaşam tarzlarına göre farklılıkların önemli olduğu belirlenmiştir.
This study was carried out in order to find out theopinions and general knowledge levels of the students in the Faculty ofVeterinary Medicine regarding euthanasia. The material of the research was the data obtainedfrom the survey that was carried out with face-to-face interviews with 638 students, consisting of 320 students from KafkasUniversity and 318 students from Adnan Menderes University. In the study, itwas determined that the average age of the students, who participated in thestudy, was 23.09±1.45; and 70.5% of them had gained information abouteuthanasia during their educations at the school. When the views of the facultyof veterinary medicine students on the euthanasia were analyzed, it wasdetermined that 71.2% of participants deemed appropriate that euthanasia can beapplied to the animals in the required situations. It was found that 83.1% ofthe participants had the idea that euthanasia demands of the animal ownersshould be considered by the veterinarian, and 55.5% of the students thoughtthat religious beliefs should not be regarded as an important reference in thediscussions about animal euthanasia. It was determinedthat there are differences in the views of the veterinarian candidates studyingin faculty of veterinary medicine depending on demographic structure, gender,culture and lifestyle.
