dc.descriptionAlfred Marshall objected the idea of ‘rational economic man’ contrary tothe other leading figures of neoclassical economics, despite he is evaluated asa neoclassical economist. According to him economics was a changeable, complicatedand evolutionary discipline, and this idea which neglects human’s social andcultural sphere, emotions, intuitions, desires and habits was inadequate toexplain this complicated sphere. Instead of this concept Marshall suggested theidea of ‘a man of flesh and blood’ which reflects the relationships of humanwith his/her social and historical context. And this paper aims to examineMarshall’s conceptions of science and ’economics’ and to reveal the essentialof his conception of ‘a man of flesh and blood’.  
dc.descriptionNeoklasik iktisadın kurucuları arasında değerlendirilen Alfred Marshall,neoklasik iktisadın diğer önde gelen isimlerinin aksine, ‘rasyonel iktisadiinsan’ fikrine karşı çıkmıştır. Zira Marshall’a göre iktisat değişken, karmaşıkve evrimsel bir yapıya sahiptir ve insanın hem toplumsal ve kültürel çevresini,hem de duygularını, sezgilerini, arzularını ve alışkanlıklarını dikkate almayanbu rasyonel iktisadi insan fikri, bu karmaşık dünyayı açıklama konusundayetersiz kalmaktadır. Marshall bu kavramın yerine, insanın toplumsal vetarihsel bağlamıyla bağlantısını ifade eden ‘kanlı-canlı insan’ fikrini önermiştir.Bu çalışmanın amacı da, Marshall’ın ontolojik ve epistemolojik anlayışı doğrultusundabilimi ve ‘iktisat’ı nasıl ele aldığını incelemek ve bu doğrultuda ‘kanlı-canlıinsan’ anlayışının temelini gözler önüne sermektir.
