INVESTIGATION OF EIGHTH-GRADE STUDENTS’ GEOMETRY SELF-EFFICACY PERCEPTIONS AND GEOMETRIC REASONING SKILLS

dc.descriptionIn this study, geometry self-efficacyperceptions and geometric reasoning skills of eighth grade students wereinvestigated, the relationship between them was examined and it was determinedwhether there was a significant difference according to gender and schoolachievement level. In this study in which adopted a quantitative researchapproach, the correlation model which is one of the relational screeningmodels, was used. In the 2018-2019 academic year, ”Geometry self-efficacyscale” and "Geometric reasoning test” were administered to 346 eighthgrade secondary school students studying in schools selected by stratifiedsampling method from probability based sampling types. As a result of analyzes,although there is no statistically significant difference between thesub-dimensions of the scale and gender for self-efficacy perceptions ofstudents; There was a significant difference between the scale and gender infavor of male students. A significant difference was found between schoolachievement levels and both the geometry self-efficacy perceptions andgeometric reasoning skills of students for each sub-dimension and overallscale. For the geometric reasoning skill levels, it was determined that therewas a difference in favor of girls between "Show a reason" dimensionand gender. Moreover, it was found that there was a significant relationshipbetween geometry self-efficacy perceptions and geometric reasoning skills bothfor the overall scale and for each sub-dimensions.
dc.descriptionBu çalışmada, sekizinci sınıf öğrencilerinin geometriye yöneliköz-yeterlik algıları ve geometrik akıl yürütme becerileri araştırılmış,aralarındaki ilişki incelenmiş, cinsiyet ve okul başarı düzeyine göre anlamlıbir farklılığın olup olmadığı tespit edilmiştir. Nicel araştırma yaklaşımınınbenimsendiği bu çalışmada ilişkisel tarama modellerinden korelasyon modelkullanılmıştır. 2018-2019 eğitim öğretim yılında olasılık temelli örneklemeçeşitlerinden tabakalı örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilen okullarda öğrenim gören346 sekizinci sınıf ortaokul öğrencisine “Geometriye yönelik öz-yeterlikölçeği” ve “Geometrik akıl yürütme testi” uygulanmıştır. Yapılan analizlersonucunda öğrencilerin geometriye yönelik öz-yeterlik algıları için ölçeğininalt boyutları ile cinsiyet arasında istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı bir farklılıkbulunmasa da; ölçeğin geneli ile cinsiyet arasında erkek öğrencilerin lehineanlamlı bir farklık bulunmuştur. Öğrencilerin geometriye yönelik öz-yeterlikalgıları ve geometrik akıl yürütme beceri düzeyleri ile öğrenim gördükleriokulların başarı düzeyleri arasında da her bir alt boyut ve ölçeğin geneli içinanlamlı bir farklılık görülmüştür. Geometrik akıl yürütme beceri düzeyleri için“Neden gösterme” boyutu ile cinsiyet arasında kızların lehine farklılığınolduğu belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca, öğrencilerin geometriye yönelik öz-yeterlikalgıları ile geometrik akıl yürütme becerileri arasında hem ölçeğin genelindehem de alt boyutlarında anlamlı bir ilişkinin olduğu görülmüştür.
